I've mentioned UWM before: https://wb9kzy.blogspot.com/2022/03/the-university-of-wisconsin-milwaukee.html The UWM Student Union had beer and food available in the basement (The Gasthaus), found a couple of pictures: Semi-obligatory inflated price: that's roughly what a gyros would cost at Oakland Gyros today They also showed movies in the evening but by then I was usually back home - a day student.  There was also bowling where there supposedly were vending machines with beer but they must have been taken out or I would have gotten a picture :) But I noticed the gyros on the menu - I never had gyros until I moved to the Chicago area a few years later - no sense of culinary adventure then.  That spicy lamb carved from a rotating spit, served on a pita with that tangy dressing, yum !  No wonder I used to weigh 50 pounds more than I do now :) Best Regards, Chuck, WB9KZY http://wb9kzy.com/ham.htm

This picture on Face brought back some memories: The Nicolet High School radio club had a couple of unused Knight VFOs on hand.  After I got my General license I borrowed one to use with the HW-16.  At a certain point crystals get expensive especially after upgrading where I had more frequencies available. After a while I returned the VFO to the club and replaced it with a solid state VFO from MFJ.  I gutted my old Hallicrafters S-120 receiver and used the bandspread capacitor to tune the 7 MHz MFJ VFO.  Also added a flip-flop divider to allow operation on 80 meters. In college I bought a Drake 2A and a Hallicrafters HT-37 from a fellow in the UWM radio club.   But the Knight VFO was a fun addition - I might have bought the Heathkit HG-10 to go with the HW-16 but there was that matter of the ARRL life membership cost of $150 - I think that the life membership was the better deal.  I learned (from watching the TV show: "The Avengers", really!) that a dash isn't called a dash if it's in a person's family name, it's called a bar-sinister.  I don't think that applies to where I went to college, anyway we just called it UWM (University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee).   Between the library and the student union there was a big plaza where you'd see stuff like this (I assume they were drama majors): al fresco western drama at UWM don't raise your children to be drama students ?
