RR Auction

Was watching Curious Marc: source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJuFG4SLWN4 where he buys two Shuttle barberpole indicators for $250 (yikes!) - but he mentions: https://www.rrauction.com/ the closed auction item from October 2024: source: https://www.rrauction.com/auctions/lot-detail/349149607010484-space-shuttle-simulator-instrument-panel-enunciators/ I had never heard of these guys before, wow, talk about high end stuff ! BTW, with Firefox I learned that if a shift + right click is done on a web page photo it is possible to save pictures on sites like RR Auction that disable the right click. Epilog: bucket-o-tubes

Image
I was seriously considering the purchase of this old Allied ham receiver: source: https://www.ebay.com/itm/27659 4861934 $88 plus $21.73 shipping isn't a horrible price for a decent looking solid state receiver.  But today after seeing the results of that auction of old stuff mentioned here:   https://wb9kzy.blogspot.com/2024/08/who-will-buy.html I decided not to bid - who needs more stuff that will probably get used once in a great while and probably not even enough to keep the dust off ? BTW, the bucket o tubes went for $9 !! https://titletownauctions.hibid.com/lot/209554098/bucket-of-radio-tubes?ref=catalog Best Regards, Chuck, WB9KZY http://wb9kzy.com/ham.htm

Any vacuum thermionic valves, sir ? someone has bid my bucket-o-tubes three dollars to take it someone has put $2 down for my nearly full bucket won't you consider this assortment of tubes ? any advance on two dollars for you, sir ? ( with apologies to the creators of Oliver! - yes there is a reason why QST does not accept poetry for publication :) picture source: https://titletownauctions.hibid.com/lot/209554098/bucket-of-radio-tubes?ref=catalog All I know is, resist the temptation to thoroughly wash those dusty tubes because the part number markings are NOT robust !  Ask me how I know :) Best Regards, Chuck, WB9KZY http://wb9kzy.com/ham.htm

Untempted

Image
I didn't accept the offer.  this was blogged on previously:   https://wb9kzy.blogspot.com/2022/05/what-deal.html     Also seeing that I was the only one watching, I unwatched - no sense in feigning interest.   Ebay didn't even email their usual:  "you better jump on this PDQ, the same offer has been sent to others" :) Best Regards, Chuck, WB9KZY http://wb9kzy.com/ham.htm

What a deal ?

I got this notification from ebay, $1050 off !: the countdown has begun https://www.ebay.com/itm/143598360784 so the total would be 2057.25 including tax for 100 of the Phaostron meters. I usually "watch" ebay "buy it now" stuff that I'm sorta interested in before buying just for this type of discount, some sellers even have patterns of doing this, so it may save a few dollars. But even though these are really nice meters (not sure if they are taut-band or jeweled or what but they are 50 uA full scale, or 20,000 ohms per volt when used in a VOM) over $20 for a surplus meter that's entering middle age (33) is kind of a lot of money. I do have a similar Phaostron meter which I *think* I bought from (the now departed) BG Micro last century: date code 52nd week of 1981 ? the works are visible But I never used it for anything.  That's the other thing, what would I do with 100 meters, sell them in a kit, a VOM ?  Now one interesting thing is that it would be ...
