I signed into my Thinkpad and was able to enroll in Windows 10 security updates through October 13, 2026.  And it didn't even cost me 1000 Microsoft Rewards points, nice ! It was so nice I did it twice - second time on a different Windows 10 laptop, the battered and broken Toshiba, again at no cost. But I went for thrice on the big Sharp laptop and didn't see the offer extended - perhaps it was just not pushed out to that machine yet or maybe because that machine isn't signed in to Microsoft ? Well, I still have some time on that - I rarely use the Sharp anyway so it could be taken off-line without a big problem - which is what I'll probably end up doing in a year or so with those three Windows 10 boxes. Why have three Windows 10 machines ?  They can be handy in a pinch, I can use one as part of a printing station.  Another is handy for looking at video files on the TV (the internal video via USB on the TV isn't fast enough at times for certain codecs, the video and...

This actually seems like good news: source: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/06/microsoft-extends-free-windows-10-security-updates-into-2026-with-strings-attached/  1000 Microsoft Rewards points per PC is no big deal:    Now hopefully I'll be able to keep the Windows 10 machines "on the air" for another year.  I do have pre-Windows 10 PCs that I still use for offline tasks.  They actually work better after getting rid of the security stuff, much faster boot times for one thing.  It is Screamer Radio v0.4.4     It's an internet radio Windows program with a built in record capability.   It seems to still be available: https://www.screamer-radio.com/download/    (scroll down to the bottom of the page) Why I like it:  the recording feature is nice.   Let's say you are listening to a show for a while and they play something that you'd like to have a copy of.  With Screamer Radio you can just hit the record and it will go back into the memory banks and get the last hunk of stream (Screamer is always buffering) and put it into a file.  This doesn't always work perfectly, it keys on the title that the streamer sends out.  When the title (I may not be using the correct term but you get the idea) sent out by the streamer changes (or doesn't change) then the recording  kerchunks out the old titled file and starts a new file.  It's all done automagically and works pretty well. Other good things abo...
