Crossing the Gore

Image
see those triangular chevron'd areas ?  that's the start of this whole deal Remember the Tony Romo incident in Milwaukee: https://wb9kzy.blogspot.com/2026/07/tony-tony-tony.html I happened to see another article on the citations: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/other/former-cowboys-star-tony-romo-hit-with-3-new-citations-after-arrest-in-wisconsin/ar-AA2b8q8N But the thing that caught me eye was this: So the reason why Tony Romo was pulled over was that he crossed the gore.  I'll be honest, I had never heard gore used in this context before.  The only gore I remember from drivers ed were those scare you to death accident movies that we saw ("did you see that one guy ?  were those his brains ?").  Here is what the wiki says: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gore_(road) So basically just don't cross a solid white line to save a little time in Milwaukee, the time savings will go "poof".  Also in Tony Romo's case, it gives CBS an excuse to get out from un...

The CFL is already at it

Image
I've mentioned the Canadian Football League before: https://wb9kzy.blogspot.com/2024/10/2024-canadian-football.html While the NFL fiddles around with mini-camps and easing into practicing for the 2026 season, Youtube served up this week 1 of the 2026 game: source:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zdoYNILYd4 Former Packer, Kabion Ento (48), recovers a fumble in OT for the Montreal Alouettes, 1st CFL game 2026.  This helped the Alouettes beat the Hamilton Tiger Cats, 30-27. First Packers pre-season game is August 13 - first 2026 regular season game is September 13  :(  The last game is in January 2027 !  The Super Bowl: February 14, 2027 - Happy Birthday to Jack Benny ! The last Montreal Alouettes game is October 23, 2026 - the CFL Grey Cup (equivalent to the Super Bowl) is November 15.  Best Regards, Chuck, WB9KZY http://wb9kzy.com/ham.htm

Weird Sports Photos

Before the June 3 2026 game between the Brewers and the Giants - here is Brewers pitcher Robert Gasser getting stronger ?   source:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nCGer90o57o I just happened to see this tweet, the photo is amazing: source:  https://x.com/ukpackers/status/2062272827898646941 Nicholson AND Nitschke working on a movie, who knew ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Head_(film) source:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoIFxrXU-v8 For 1960s Packers fans, Ray Nitschke doesn't get much screen time but at least it's pretty early in the movie so you don't need to watch the rest if you don't want to. And here is the most profound part of the movie at about 43:10 in: "Pleasure, the inevitable byproduct of our civilization - a new world, it's only preoccupation will be how to amuse itself - the tragedy of your times, my young friends, is that you may get exactly what you want" In other words: it's Huxley's  Brave New World BTW, in this zoom in yo...

Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots game

Image
What was the biggest news out of Super Bowl 60 for me ? The perfect weather ?  (yawn, it's California) The ads ? (no, I wasn't able to watch the game) Seahawks 29, Patriots 13   (no, not this either) Bad Bunny halftime show ?   (nope) Coincidentally I saw this on Sunday: https://x.com/WiscoGrant/status/2020553342003318952 source:  https://www.campbells.com/products/chunky/pabst-beer-cheese-with-potatoes-chorizo/ Are you kidding me ?  They also have: source:  https://www.campbells.com/products/chunky/pabst-beef-bacon-beer-chili-with-beans/ BTW in case the combo of Pabst and cheese sounds weird see the bottom of this post: https://wb9kzy.blogspot.com/2025/12/frizz.html Pabst-ett was a "cheese-food" created and sold by Pabst during prohibition.  Described as: "a pleasing combination of cheese, milk protein, milk sugar, milk minerals"  IOW: Velveeta ? source:  https://www.pabstmansion.com/2022/06/pabstett/ update:  Helpful Househol...

Schadenfreude 2026

Image
It would have been nice if the Pack had beaten the Bears in the 1st round Wildcard game but this was the next best thing: The sudden death of the Bears quest for the Lombardi trophy :) source: https://www.chicagotribune.com/2026/01/18/chicago-bears-los-angeles-rams-playoffs/ Live by last second heroics game after game, die by the last mistake of the season ! One and Done AGAIN

Image
Packers 27, Bears 31 Amazing shot of Watson fumbling into the endzone by Evan Siegle Packers photographer the only term worse than cinematic applied to football is operatic ! I guess this loss was to be expected since the Pack had lost the last 4 games.  This game was like a double Jekyll and Hyde but the two teams were out of phase.  The first half the Packers did almost no wrong, no punts, one missed field goal.  But in the second half the Packers punted quite a few times, scored one touchdown but missed the extra point and later missed a field goal.  The Bears started fairly strong in the 1st half but only had the single field goal.  But the Bears stormed back in the 2nd half and scored 25 points in the 4th quarter. The Pack just couldn't finish this season.  Maybe this just wasn't our year with the injuries to several starters.  Next year might be the last chance for this group, already they will lose players in 2026, possibly coaches ?  ...

Bears week II in 2025

Image
With the second game today (Saturday December 20, 2025) I just had to feature this: https://twitter.com/glennfischbach/status/2001109901649584352 In case the tune isn't familiar there are lyrics: https://genius.com/Happy-schnapps-combo-the-bears-still-suck-lyrics Many vocal versions can be found on Youtube and other sites.  And there is apparel which voices the sentiment: source:  https://cheesehead-tv-shop.fourthwall.com/collections/all/1 Not a classy tune even when given the classical treatment but polkas are always fun ! And I didn't know this term before so following the Packers IS educational: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amuse-bouche Also there is this somewhat more sedate song: source:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RY1g_b-5RWA This lecture by Mike Leckrone, the former leader of the UW Madison marching band, had a Packers-Bears story in it at about 14:25 .source:  https://youtu.be/ai_iKr9RMO8?t=863    Donna Shalala wiki (the Bears aren't mentioned...

Bears Week

Image
The Packers host the Bears at Lambeau on Sunday.  So I was looking a little at the Bears history.  In 1965 there were three Hall of Fame players taken in the first round of the NFL draft.  Two of the three Hall of Famers were selected by the Bears: Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers: Butkus, Sayers, Halas in 1965 The third Hall of Famer ?  Joe Namath, but he went to the upstart NY Jets in the AFL.   Butkus and Sayers were amazing players the defensive and offensive rookies of the year: but not super happy about it    Sayers in particular was the kind of player that everyone wanted to see - at any time Sayers could run for a touchdown.  Butkus was also very intense and productive but they tend to make more extended NFL Films sequences with John Facenda (voice of God) narration for offense than defense. a Butkus clip in this post but it's Pat Summerall narrating:  https://wb9kzy.blogspot.com/2023/10/a-guy-named-butkus-1942-2023.html But the thing...

be back in 2 and 2

Image
Everybody remembers this: source:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anWLvZdn368 I lashed up my Sony muter plus delay for last nights Packer game: Jayden and Jordan after the game old Sony TV remote, Sony stereo remote, muter, 9 volt power supply The delay itself was supposed to be 2 minutes but it came out as 2 minutes and 2 seconds.  It actually worked pretty well even for football which is a little less time regimented than modern baseball - George Carlin must be spinning in his grave ! source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeCtFkHQtEo  The muter was connected on one leg of the left speaker.  The right speaker was disconnected.  One question: does it harm an audio amp to be run without a load ?  Certainly that is true with an RF amp but an RF transmitter is generally run at high power.  Most casual listening to an audio amp is done at milliwatts.  So the output stage should be able to dissipate the power.  But it's prudent to run the ampli...

Lazy Sunday

Image
Didn't do much today other than listen to sports.  The Brewers crushed the Pirates: the Mis had a sensational game, over 100 pitches, still throwing 100 MPH and the Packers beat the Lions: Micah Parsons ?  He FAST ! A good day in Wisconsin ! But I can sympathize with the players like Christian Welch on the Brewers or various Packers players with back soreness.  My back was sore today so not much got done. Best Regards, Chuck, WB9KZY http://wb9kzy.com/ham.htm

Micah Parsons

Image
This is big news in NE Wisconsin - the Packers have traded Kenny Clark and two future 1st round draft picks to the Cowboys for Micah Parsons.  I have mentioned Micah Parsons before: it's really true ! https://wb9kzy.blogspot.com/2024/01/micah-stay-away-from-our-qb.html  Of course the Packers had Aaron Jones, 33, to take care of Micah Parsons in that game.  The Packers crushed the Cowboys that game and Micah wasn't really that effective.  And now Aaron Jones plays for the Vikings and Micah and the Packers will have to face him twice. People are comparing Micah Parsons to Reggie White.  Reggie always seemed able to pick just the right time and make big plays like a QB sack, fumble or even a lateral to Leroy Butler for the first ever Lambeau leap. If Micah Parsons can match Reggie in clutch performances he will be worth every penny and the Packers will win the Superbowl ! BTW the only other Micah I remember was a fictional character, Micah Torrance on The Rifleman ...

Toyotathon ends in Whitefish Bay

Image
No, NOT this Toyotathon: This Toyotathon: For some reason I found this picture really amusing. source: https://www.jsonline.com/story/communities/north/2025/01/02/car-falls-into-whitefish-bay-sinkhole-driver-ignored-road-closure/77405334007/ This picture reminded me of one summer day working at the Village of Fox Point, Wisconsin.  I am standing on the back of a stopped garbage truck (AKA: "a packer").  We are on some road east of Lake Drive, in other words, the fancier part of Fox Point.  The driver is a fellow named Bugs, I don't remember the name of the other summer kid on the back of the packer.  We are picking up yard waste by the side of the road.  All of a sudden the back wheels of the packer sink into the road.  We are good and stuck.  The pavement must have been softened by the summer heat and there was a rusted out culvert pipe under the road ? Working along with the packer we had two village crew guys driving Cushman three wheeled scooters w...
