Another Sunday of Tidbits

1) Forma Scientific clipboard:

I got this freebie clipboard sometime in the 1980s or 1990s while working at GTE.  Legal size, it was an OK clipboard but just recently I heard a "clink" sound when picking it up.  I found these two pieces on the floor of one of the springs for the clip:

Where am I going to get a replacement for that spring ?  I'd have to make one - the clipboard still clips but once the other spring breaks that'll be about it.  Although I do have some of these Boston clips:

We'll see how it goes.

2) I went over to Mann's Store on Saturday morning.   There were many cars by the Farm Museum on Jackson Harbor road for the cider pressing event.  So on the way back from the store I decided to take the scenic route down Town Line road.  Here is probably the biggest elm tree on the island:
Saturday was a windy day

When I was a kid there were thousands of these trees in the Milwaukee area.  Imagine them on both sides of the street with the branches meeting in the middle to form a green arcade - this was especially found in the neighboring suburb of Whitefish Bay.  I spent 3 summers in college watching them get cut down due to Dutch elm disease and chipping up the remains for the Village of Fox Point.

BTW this elm is just to the west of what was known as Thor's Chalet, originally it was the island dairy, now apparently it is owned by the county and houses the EMS ambulances !  I don't remember that garage being there before.  Saturday was a learning day :)

3) Eyes closed ?

Watching the Sox-Guardians highlights of game 5:
Sox won the first two games but then dropped the last three

I noticed that Munetaka Murikami seemed to have his eyes closed:

Maybe he was just caught in a normal blink but it looks kinda like: "close your eyes and hope for the best"  :)
