Nomortland
I'll admit it, somewhere along the line I started watching Rick and Morty. It can be seen for free on the Adult Swim website. Rick and Morty is a cartoon featuring 6 main characters, Rick Sanchez (mad scientist, wears a lab coat), Morty Smith (Rick's 14 year old grandson), Summer Smith (Rick's granddaughter, couple of years older than Morty), Jerry Smith (father of Morty and Summer), Beth Smith (daughter of Rick, mom of Morty and Summer) and Space Beth (it's a complicated story). Anyway I finally decided to buy seasons 1 to 8 on DVD:
16 DVDs !
I've never seen this kind of DVD packaging before
it has a spindle and a little button to hold them in place
The Rick and Morty show is heavily into the multiverse so this extended Smith family features Rick C137, the self proclaimed smartest being in the multiverse. They live in a reality where the residents pronounce parmesan as par-me-zee-ann. Rick and Morty go on adventures, usually involving crime, violence, bad language and sex. They get there using either teleportation or spaceflight. I think they have a space ship mainly so that Rick can haul stuff.
My favorite episode of season 8 was Nomortland (a takeoff on the movie Nomadland - I dunno - never saw it). This is a Jerry Smith episode where our Parmesan Jerry, aka Eagleman meets 5 o'clock shadow Jerry, aka Mooch. They travel the multiverse without teleporting or using a ship - they "slip through cracks" in the multiverse.
There were a number of Nomortland universes, here are the ones I remember:
1) blah blah (everyone communicates using the single syllable blah)
2) frozen (everyone is frozen)
3) stringy (everything is composed of colorful strings)
4) goaty (the characters are all goats who eat tin cans, big cans)
5) hippie maypole
6) margarita island
7) disco ball (Rick turned the Moon into a disco ball)
8) grand central (a large collection of somewhat mean Jerrys)
9) 5 o'clock shadow (all the people have 5 o'clock shadows including the women)
10) cubist (Picasso would love it)
11) Beth baking cookies
12) Jerry watching TV

There is a musical interlude where Jerry and Mooch traverse the various universes while the song: Send Me On My Way by Rusted Root is played.

A fun episode. I wonder when season 9 will arrive ?
The Smiths eat a lot of pancakes as a family around the dinner table - maybe that's why I like the show ?
