A Simple Kit Fix

I was having trouble with a prototype timer kit.  It seemed like I would just touch it and it would enter a menu or reset all itself.  Although the spring humidity is here I thought that possibly it was due to static electricity ?  However the kit is in a steel case, the board should be shielded from any static discharge.  So I concluded that possibly the PIC had been damaged.

But then as I was going to disassemble the kit and change the PIC processor I saw something.  For some reason the last time I had put the kit in the case I had left the nut off one of the three momentary switches (which are soldered directly to the circuit board).  The case is a candy tin (actually it originally held Swiss Colony brownies).  So every time I was touching the kit the thin steel case would move against the threaded brass of the switch and apparently cause problems.  This only started after a while.

So instead of changing the PIC I just added a washer and a black finishing nut to the switch.

The weird trouble ceased, problem solved ?
