Class 10 works !

I finally made a discovery about my PVR:
It's nothing fancy but it did the job, sorta.  Recently ALL attempts at recording had periodic blips or skips in the recording.  At first I thought it might be due to signal fluctuations from the outdoor antenna clanging around in the wind.  So I tried an indoor antenna - no help.

I usually use a USB flash drive of varying makes/sizes like this one:

However going back to first principles (read the manual) it specifically says to NOT use a USB Flash drive.  And initially I did use a USB hard drive with the PVR.  But I stopped that when it got bricked somehow.  A friend of mine was able to get it working again but I lost files so I stopped using the USB hard drives with the PVR and started using USB flash drives.

Then I tried a flash SSD drive with a Sabrent USB adapter thingy - that didn't work at all, the PVR would not recognize it as a drive.

So finally I tried these:
class 10 micro SD card

USB 3 micro SD card reader AND writer

AND the blips stopped happening !  So in the future I'll be using the micro SD class 10 cards with the USB card reader/writer for the PVR.  Apparently the Class 10 designation isn't just marketing, USB flash drives just aren't able to sustain writes at video speed without blipping randomly.  Class 10 cards are made to record at video speeds.  The cost of the USB Flash versus the micro SD card is about the same for the same size.

This saved me the hassle of buying a new PVR where the results probably would have been the same.
