Schulman auctions

I happened to email to a grade school friend that I remembered his favorite diner in our old neighborhood:

But I had more fond memories of going to the Allied Radio a block or so north of the diner:

Then he mentioned in a reply that he had a Knight-kit Star Roamer and attached a picture:

I replied that this was really neat and that it still lit up and everything after all this time.  He then said that during his last move in the pandemic he had gotten rid of the working Star Roamer along with many other similar items of hardware.

I think he did right, it would have been easy to rent a storage locker and stuff it with items like the Star Roamer but to what purpose ?  How often would it be used or touched or even looked at ?

There are hams who even after their 90th birthday are still bidding on items from Schulman :)

I guess it is easy for me to criticize especially considering that I've bought stuff like a Heathkit SB-104 or a Heathkit MR-1010 that I rarely use.  But lately I've tried to cease those kind of purchases.  I am considering a new laptop because this one is literally falling apart but other than that, no new stuff.
