Freebie pdf book download from IEEE: Inspiring Technology 34 Breakthroughs

This looks like an interesting book from the IEEE - with lots of pictures, too :)  Actually there is a photo of a young Clerk-Maxwell holding a color wheel (another of his discoveries concerned the nature of light) - I'd never seen this photo before.

  Usually Clerk-Maxwell is shown in later life although he died before the age of 50.
