This is an interesting article. I never knew that both designs were based on car ferries !
One of the LCS varieties was built not too far from the island. They used to test them in Green Bay (the body of water) all the way up to and around the island. The LCS is REALLY fast, like faster than a motorboat/jet-ski. The wiki says 52 MPH top speed which is pretty fast for something longer than a football field. Since the LCS ships are large this can result in insanely high wakes (5 feet ?) in shallow water. The only story I heard from around the island was that someone was visiting the remains of the light on Pilot island. Their power boat was tied up somehow to the shore (there aren't any piers remaining). An LCS went by so fast that the resulting wave threw the motor boat up on the rocks. I'm not sure how the Pilot island visitors handled that ! :)
There was also this incident:

Per the wiki, the USS Milwaukee was decommissioned on 8 September 2023. It was launched 18 December 2013.
