For some reason I found this picture really amusing. |

This picture reminded me of one summer day working at the Village of Fox Point, Wisconsin. I am standing on the back of a stopped garbage truck (AKA: "a packer"). We are on some road east of Lake Drive, in other words, the fancier part of Fox Point. The driver is a fellow named Bugs, I don't remember the name of the other summer kid on the back of the packer. We are picking up yard waste by the side of the road. All of a sudden the back wheels of the packer sink into the road. We are good and stuck. The pavement must have been softened by the summer heat and there was a rusted out culvert pipe under the road ?
Working along with the packer we had two village crew guys driving Cushman three wheeled scooters with dump boxes on the back. These guys would pick up rubbish at the homes and then when the hopper was full they would back up to the packer and dump in the rubbish. One of the guys in a Cushman scooter went back to the Village Hall and they came back after a while with another packer and a hefty front end loader manned by a mechanic to get the first packer unstuck.
We got on the back of the other packer and sped away to pick up more steaming grass clippings in black plastic bags :)
A picture of a current rubbish scooter from one of my former co-workers at the Village of Fox Point those 50 summers ago:
