A car that runs on water

The weirdest thing of all ? There is actually a way to run a car on water ! But of course there is a catch. Using gallium as a sort of catalyst, aluminum can be used to grab the oxygen out of water giving off hydrogen as a waste product. Then the hydrogen can either be burned in an ICE or maybe used in a fuel cell ? The catch is that aluminum is a consumable - and that cars have a lot of aluminum.

But in theory wouldn't it work ? :)
BTW, my Dad had a 1969 Volkswagen bug chassis that reminded me of what Frohike is driving, except the motor was in the back. The VW Beetle was built on what they called "the pan" and these were available for kit car builders like my Dad. There is also a scene in the movie, Tucker where the actor, Mako, drives a chassis around:
