I've mentioned this before but my favorite Rodrigues kit cartoon from July 1969 Electronics Illustrated page 108:

I remember one time my Dad bought a sailing ship model kit. And it was literally pieces of wood in a box with instructions ! No molded plastic that snapped together. Actually tiny planks of wood for the hull and deck that had to be cut, pinned and glued. It is still around here somewhere - Dad developed severe cramping in his hands so he gave up the crafty stuff like carving or model making - the ship was never finished.
