HVAC => a comfortable rate for cooling

As a just graduated electrical engineer looking at the want ads I wondered: HVAC ? High Voltage Alternating Current ?  Nope, try: Heating Ventilating Air Conditioning

I realize it is hot in Phoenix, Arizona during the summer but this does seem excessive:

So for HVAC experts, Phoenix must furnish a natural laboratory.

This reminded me of a page from the book:  Have Space Suit, Will Travel by Robert Heinlein:

Heinlein goes into detail on space suit design as his young protagonist refits an old spacesuit he has won in an advertising contest.  But I'll always remember that phrase: comfortable rate for cooling and how perfectly it sums up HVAC.

But Phoenix in the summer, whew !  If those night time lows ever get into the 98.6 degree range and the power gives out, people are going to have a hard time surviving.

I was in Phoenix once in the 20th century on a business trip.  I remember that the employee of the month got to park their car under a carport.  All the cars had those wacky cardboard dashboard protectors.  And also how a few employees actually ate their lunch outside !
