Robot NFL
I saw the startling report from the 1st quarter of the Bills-Bengals game on Monday night that Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, had sustained a "normal" hit while tackling Tee Higgins. He rose to his feet, apparently OK but then collapsed. His heart had stopped. Game play was suspended after Damar Hamlin was revived and then taken to the hospital.
It's terrible to see anyone with a health emergency but this was a young, strong, healthy man who hadn't sustained anything that hadn't happened hundreds of other times this past weekend.
Note that this was the 16th game of the season - it seems to me that the more games that are played, the more chances there are for this kind of incident. There will be one more regular season game next week and then possibly 4 more games in the playoffs ! I wonder what the NFL will do to address this ? One thing that might be done: a "pitch count" for each player - only X number of plays per game or season - or maybe set the pitch count to eliminate 3 games for each player ?
Even better: instead of adding more games, eliminate 3 or more games *see below ? Fill the void with: ROBOT FOOTBALL !
I mentioned robot football previously:

No human gets hurt or loses their life. I think it's worth trying. Come on billionaires ! For each team: 11 robots, spares, a few tech guys - boom, a novelty for our eyeballs. Maybe the same players "play" in the games via controllers ? Maybe have separate standings for robot games and real games with separate playoffs and an "iron bowl" ?
Maybe multiple "bye" weeks during the season but fill those byes with robot football. The owners still get 17 games of revenue, fans get football each week even during byes, players get more time off, less chances for injury: win win win.
Anything is better than doing nothing for player safety which I suspect is what the NFL will do.

* During the "glory" years of the Packers in the 1960s they only played 14 games, there was one championship game, so maybe 15 games total in a season. Potentially the Packers (if they win out) might have to play 21 games, 40% more plays = 40% greater chance of getting hurt. In no other industry are we increasing the "standard" hours of a working person 40% !
