Alfred P. Morgan

Recently the wonderful World Radio History site put up a scan of a radio/parts catalog from 1915:

The Morgan of Adams-Morgan is well known to any kid of the 1960s who was interested in radio and electronics as Alfred P. Morgan, an author of a series of nicely illustrated books for kids.  My favorite book of Mr. Morgan's was his: "Adventures in Electrochemistry" - for a while there I was a nickel plating maniac :)

Here is my web page with more stuff about Mr. Morgan:  http://wb9kzy.com/apm.htm

Scroll down this World Radio History page for scans of his kids books:

Finally one of my other favorite Morgan books was this:

Here is the pictorial from the book of a crystal set  (page 104):

Here is a picture of my version of that crystal set, it still works:

Here are a couple of recordings made with that crystal set of WTMJ, 620 kHz in Milwaukee, WI  during the 1970s.  The post-war version of the Fred Allen Christmas show with the sketch: Santa Claus goes on Strike:

This intro was done by John Grams on WTMJ in Milwaukee, Wisconsin I *think* during the holiday season of 1974.  It was recorded with my Magnavox 5" reel-to-reel recorder - you can hear at about 30 seconds into this clip where I flipped the speed from 1 7/8 to 3 3/4 inches per second :)  BTW, the verse of Jingle Bells sung in Polish was from this record by Joe Gumin:

Billie the Brownie was probably voiced here by Carol Cotter:

a well known radio/TV broadcaster in the Milwaukee and Madison areas of Wisconsin.

Here is the Santa Claus goes on strike clip from the 1948 Fred Allen season.

When I first got on Ebay I purchased many of Alfred Morgan's books, most were library discards well used but a couple were almost pristine.  Each time I opened an Ebay parcel with a "new" book it was like taking a short, pleasant trip back to the 1960s.

Best Regards,
